16. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
For years now I’ve been wondering why we confess Christ and tell how great we adore and love Him, but deny Him in our good works. This is a very sensitive issue that we’ve managed to ignore. We don’t even address it. Because of this there’s so much chaos in the church. And the sad thing is that even Pastors, leaders and priests are spearheading this act of hypocrisy. Many are losing their salvation because of this very act of ignorance and rebellion. We partake in every evil act, live wayward without any regret, but claim we are followers of Christ because we go to church, we pay tithe, we give offering and sing in the choir. We even claim to love God but hate our fellow human being. How can you hate God’s image but yet love God whom you’ve never seen before? Only hypocrites do that. We can’t ignore all His statues but raise our hands in worship and think everything is fine. Paul said in Romans 6:1 – 2 that “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”. Only a Lukewarm person will assume Grace abounds so he’ll live life any how.
Reason Why We Are Lukewarm
You know, there’s this character of the church which reflects even in our speech. We say things like, “after all nobody feeds me” , “I don’t depend on anyone” “without you I’m worth it” , “to hell with their preaching” “God doesn’t deal with outward appearance” “am I the only one involved in this?” “God even understands”. Eii do you know the gravity of such statements? It is dangerous to call God a lair because He doesn’t lie. And it’s even more dangerous trying to mock God because God cannot be mocked.
Jesus Christ our Lord sent out a massage to us, the church, not to be Lukewarm. And I quote
Revelation 3:14 – 22
And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The problem with us isn’t our unbelief or comfort. It is our pride. We are not humble. Our Lord says, “you are lukewarm because you say, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:”
As soon as some people become rich, they forsake their morals and values for living. Even Pastors, leaders, bishops and those in spiritual authority fall when they become rich. From nowhere comes pride, greed, envy, and wickedness. Suddenly their love wax cold because iniquity abounds more in their lives. Then humility become something of the past. This is serious! All of a sudden they stop focusing on people and put on the armor of hypocrisy. What a tragedy!
Our love for riches makes us even separate ourselves from God completely. We hardly go down on our knees to pray. And we don’t attend church or even fellowship with the Saints anymore because we think we’ve arrived. We long for more power and in so doing we even mistreat others just to feed our our ego and pride. Hmmm
You can’t serve God and money at the same time. You can’t visit unpleasant places during the week, and come sit in the choir on Sunday morning. You can’t dine with the devil and sing halleluya! You can’t keep on killing, lying, engaging in illegal businesses, exposing your body, walking in town naked, drinking and cursing, fornicating, stealing and committing adultery, but still be a follower of Jesus. We can’t continue to sin because Grace abounds. Certainly not!
God hates people who are lukewarm so if you want to be cold be cold, or if you want to be hot be hot. Why? Because on that day the lukewarm will be cast away. May the Holy Spirit convict us and lead us into all truth. Grace and peace to you.
